Hernández's goals were hardly among the classiest he will score but they were another reminder that the 23-year-old, who scored 20 goals in all competitions in his debut season for Manchester United, is becoming one of the sharpest poachers around. We're linked with the "new Javier Hernandez," Erick Torres in the papers today, here from The Telegraph:
Torres has scored six goals in 19 appearances since making his Chivas debut against Monterrey last November and his form has earned him a call-up into Mexico's Under-20 squad for the Toulon tournament in France. ...Torres, nicknamed 'El Cubo', stands 5ft 11in and is described as being strong in the air and with a powerful shot.
"Do I want to go to Man United? First, we should see if it's real and if it is concrete."
Angling for a new Arsenal contract? Who knows...
Luka Modric rumour still has legs, it'll be £20 million says "a source":
"The word is that Sir Alex has already spoken directly to Harry and said how much he admires Modric and how much he wants him.And I'm so late with the paper round-up today that I've a later story, from an interview with Sir Alex in Inside United magazine, quoted here, from The Guardian:
"And as much as Harry wants to keep him he knows United can make an offer we just can't refuse.
"So Harry's busy now trying to do the Joe Cole deal to bring in a new playmaker to compensate for the expected departure of Luka."
"There's a responsibility as the manager of Manchester United. It doesn't go away," he said. "I'm not going to take it easy because we won the title. Hopefully we'll be better next season. The only thing you can do at this club is win – that's all that matters.
"We have to carry on, there's nothing else you can do," he told Inside United magazine. "We have a responsibility and expectation to live up to and that carries on next season. As I've always said, Manchester United should accept a challenge. We're good at that and, next season, we'll accept anything that comes our way."
