It's a very quiet day today, probably explained by the Olympics hangover and by the Community Shield diverting the attention of the football world.
The most interesting piece today is in The Mirror, where Ed Malyon argues that Arsenal would be better off without Van Persie - his argument being that he's better as an out and out striker, a role Arsene's obviously not going to use him in, given the new signings, and that he'll fit in better in our squad where Rooney and Kagawa would both be happy enough playing deeper:
If the Manchester United transfer were to be completed though, it seems he would take up the role of goalscorer-in-chief. Issues would arise at Old Trafford with the need to smudge Kagawa, Rooney and van Persie into a team, but most likely would be one of the former pair being shifted to a wider role as and when the three of them were required to play in the same XI.Rooney has proven how adept he is at exploiting deeper positions, and has admitted he is relishing the prospect of playing with a master finisher like van Persie, and if he were to become Batman to the Dutchman's Robin then that would be one hell of a strike partnership, and one that could work.
The other story is that Mexican forward Oribe Peralta, who helped them to Olympic gold wants to play for us. The quote?
Admitting being at Wembley made his career-defining moment even more special, he said: 'Yes, of course I'd love to come and play here. It would be a challenge and it would be really great for me.'Hernandez is one of few Mexicans to make a real impression in the Premier League and Peralta said: 'He's an inspiration to us, scoring goals.'We have to train to be like him. He scores many important goals for Manchester United. This makes us happy and it's something we aspire to.'
And that's it for today.
