Substance Abuse

With quite a lot of other things to do at the moment, I'm quite enjoying the respite from ploughing through reams of stories everyday. So little effort required at the moment - I'm sure, as the summer meanders on, the novelty will wear off... When I get some more time I'll try to get some more stuff up - have been planning a season review but the further the old season recedes into the distance the less point there seems to be...
All of which means that there's very little about today, and nothing of substance whatsoever.
As yesterday's Tevez stories told us that there would be a meeting today between the two sides, today's stories are exactly the same: we'll meet price but maybe Tevez no longer wants to sign. Except for those which link it in with the Man City sign Gareth Barry story, which read: Man City sign Barry, Tevez is next, hopefully.
Ronaldo is linked in with the Kaka to Real story:

The biggest loser in any deal taking Kaka to Real is likely to be United forward Ronaldo, who has made no secret of his desire to play for the Spanish giants.

With almost £100m set aside to complete the moves for Kaka and Ribery, the additional outlay of at least £80m for Ronaldo would be prohibitive, even for a club of Real's financial power.

United have consistently insisted that the 24-year-old, who has three years remaining on his contract, will not be sold and Real's priorities appear to lie elsewhere.

Which is well and good. The last 2 paragraphs of the story make no sense though, the quote from Perez directly contradicting the build up to it:

However, Perez has said that he would risk a further deterioration in the clubs' relationship by sanctioning another lengthy campaign to sign Ronaldo.

Perez said: "Speaking hypothetically, I can say that if one day Cristiano Ronaldo did come and play here [at Real] it will have been the result of a friendly and cordial agreement between the two clubs; and if not, he will not come.''

There's some quotes from Berbatov in The Mail, the only strange thing being the headline, wich begins "Former Spurs Star..." why that, why not "Man Utd Star?". Anyway, the quotes:

'I think the season has been successful for me,' said Berbatov. 'It is very difficult to accept defeat in the most important final, but Barcelona were the better team.

'This is my second defeat on such an occasion [Bayer Leverkusen, 2002], and I just hope I will get a third chance and win it.

'Next season we will be favourites in all competitions again: after all, Manchester United is the biggest team in the world.'

The Mail also has some quotes from Tomasz Kuszczak, who wants clarification on his position at the club:

'The contract at Manchester is for another three years, but I will speak to the manager about the situation, and about how he sees me in the team. I know one thing this season certainly has not been the best in my career.

'I felt disappointed that the manager did not put me in the team for certain matches, and on occasions, when I was not picked as understudy for Edwin van der Sar. We will see what will happen in the future.'

The Mirror reveal that we'll be revealing our new shirt sponsers today:

Aon Benfield will be announced as Manchester United's new shirt sponsors in a £20m-a-year deal today.

The insurance giants will replace current sponsors AIG, who have come under pressure to end their deal after the company was bailed out by the US Treasury.

Aon have been in extensive talks with United.
