I'm Leaving You Because I Don't Love You

More on the Valencia transfer today with The Mirror reporting:

Manchester United target Luis Antonio Valencia will demand that Wigan sell him this summer - or he will sit out his contract.

Ecuador star Valencia is desperate to go to Old Trafford but Latics are sticking to their £20million valuation, putting one of the big-money moves of the close-season at risk.

United are willing to splash out £17m, including bonuses, and do not want to pay over the odds for the talented right-winger who they know wants to join them.

Valencia is hoping a compromise is agreed by the weekend while he is playing in the World Cup for his homeland - or he could just let his Wigan deal run down instead.

Real Madrid and two other clubs are waiting in the wings for Valencia. But the player is determined to join United, where he is convinced he can fulfil his potential.

Daniel Taylor has a story on Tevez in The Guardian which could have (and probably has) been written at any point over the last two months:

The forward is contemplating severing his ties with Old Trafford and joining their closest rivals even though the Premier League champions have made it clear they want to keep him.

Tevez will announce his plans after he has been released from international duty – Argentina play a World Cup qualifier in Ecuador on Wednesday – and it has become a straight choice between the Manchester rivals, with the player leaning towards City while remaining acutely aware of the potential ramifications of leaving United.

Reports last night that he had already committed himself to Mark Hughes's side were premature but Tevez is encouraged by the scale of the club's ambition and the measures to which City have gone to make him feel wanted, compared with how United have handled the issue.

David Gill, United's chief executive, met Kia Joorabchian, the player's adviser, last week to put forward a package that would mean the club paying around £25.5m to sign Tevez when his two-year loan expires on 30 June.

Tevez has other considerations, namely the number of important games in which he was a substitute and the way he perceives the men in power at Old Trafford have let him down by not finalising the deal earlier.

Uppermost in his mind is that United have stated they think his valuation is, to quote Gill, "a bit toppy" and have spent several months trying, unsuccessfully, to persuade the consortium that owns his economic rights to lower the fee.

"More" on Ronaldo, with Perez quoted after signing Kaka:
Perez told Sky Italia: "We are always thinking about great players.

"Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are among other great players around the world.

"We all know that these are players that we would like to buy but they can't all come."

Cristiano Ronaldo, the Manchester United forward, may have to undergo a hernia operation that would rule him out of the start of pre-season training.

Ronaldo aggravated a groin problem during Portugal’s 2-1 win in their World Cup qualifying match away to Albania on Saturday and will be out for about a month if United decide he needs surgery, although the news will not signal the end of Real Madrid’s desire to lure the player to Spain.

Ronaldo has been allowed to return home to his native Madeira after being ruled out of Portugal’s friendly against Estonia in Tallinn tomorrow. He has remained in contact with United’s medical staff but is thought to want to know whether he will require surgery before he flies to Miami on holiday next week.

“Cristiano’s idea is to get it operated on right away so he can recover during June and be back to start training in early July,” a source close to the player said. “But he definitely wants this dealt with because he thinks it might affect his pre-season work if not.”
The Mail report, with the picture to prove it, that he hasn't actually returned to Madeira:
The 24-year-old was pictured strutting his stuff in Beverly Hills when he was reportedly supposed to be on his home island of Madeira as medics decide what action to take over his suspected hernia problem.
The United star, who arrived at Madeo restaurant in a flamboyant stretch Hummer, is expected to be heading to Miami on holiday next week, but was understood to be undergoing surgery first after he receives the results of medical tests.
