All the footprints you've ever left and fear expecting ahead (Porto)

Looking forward to the game tonight with less trepidation than I usually feel for Champions League games. Perhaps the opposition have something to do with it, but I think it's the aura of invincibility we have at Old Trafford in the Champions League which is the main reason, unbeaten in 4 years and 19 games. The fact that we've looked vulnerable in the league recently is not on my mind. The style of the game in European competition is such that we should go in fully confident of a clean sheet, despite recent league lapses. And I like what Sir Alex has to say:

"Physically they are very strong. They've got a good threat particularly from Hulk up front, he's a very good player," Ferguson said.

"At this stage it would be stupid for us to think it's going to be easy. We have to play full throttle."

(video of the press conference can be seen here)
Recognise their threat but recognise that we should go for it, we're at home and we should be aiming to put ourselves out of reach before the second leg.
To the team and The Telegraph have this as our probable:
Van der Sar; O'Shea, Vidic, Ferdinand/Evans, Evra; Fletcher, Carrick, Scholes, Park; Ronaldo, Rooney
And Sir Alex had this to say:

"Vidic will play alongside Jonny Evans at the back with John O'Shea at right-back.

"Rooney and Scholes are also available which will give us a bit more penetration and experience, and Ji-Sung Park will also be ready so I've got some good options."

With the midfield pretty much set in stone (Nani certainly didn't do enough on Sunday to warrant consideration), I think the only question left is up front, will it be like The Telegraph have us, or will we play Tevez up front with Rooney, leaving Fletcher out and Ronaldo dropping back to the wing - "full throttle". Given Tevez's trip last week and then the almost 90 minutes he had to play Sunday I think it unlikely he'll start. Macheda? Sir Alex has pretty much said he'll be on the bench, so that romantic notion is unlikely to happen. I think The Telegraph's team is pretty likely to be the one put out.

Some facts from The Telegraph and The BBC:
The Porto game in 2004 (1-1) is the only time we have failed to beat Portugeuse opposition at Old Trafford in nine games . Porto's 12 visits to England have resulted in 11 losses and the one draw, they have conceded 334 in those games.
The three previous meetings at Old Trafford with Porto ended in 5-2 and 4-0 wins for us and that 1-1 draw.
Porto haven't kept an away clean sheet in this Champions League campaign.

So everything points to us winning. Prediction? 3-0 to us.
